The Gosforth Hotel | Gosforth High Street

Old Gosforth High Street pub that has been doing things properly for longer than most of its current customers have been alive.

The Gosforth Hotel occupies a prominent position on Gosforth High Street and has done so for generations. The building has the presence of a Victorian hotel pub – substantial, well-proportioned, with the kind of interior that has accumulated character over decades rather than been designed to look old. It is a proper pub in the original sense and Gosforth High Street would be notably worse without it.

The Pub

Multiple rooms and areas mean the Gosforth Hotel can accommodate different uses simultaneously. There is a bar area, a lounge, space for eating, the usual pub geography. The real ale selection is kept well. The lager and keg options cover the bases. The bar staff are experienced and the pub runs smoothly as a result.

Food

The kitchen produces a broad pub menu covering the classics – pies, fish, steaks, sandwiches, Sunday lunches. The food is pub food without pretension, cooked to a standard that Gosforth locals have found reliable over many years. The Sunday roast in particular has a good local reputation. Portions are honest.

Gosforth High Street

Gosforth High Street is one of Newcastle’s better suburban commercial strips – independent businesses alongside chains, good food options, cafes, the Metro connection. The Gosforth Hotel anchors the drinking end of that offer. Its continuity and consistency in a street that has changed around it is itself a form of quality.

Getting There

Gosforth Metro station is on the High Street. The journey from the city centre takes around fifteen minutes. The pub is immediately accessible from the station.
