The Vermont Hotel sits at the top of Castle Garth Steps – almost literally on the doorstep of Newcastle Castle Keep – making it one of the most dramatically located hotels in the north of England. The building itself has real presence: a grand Edwardian facade that’s been polished and maintained properly rather than left to trade on past glories.
Inside, you’ll find the city’s most-talked-about rooftop terrace, with panoramic views across the Tyne and down towards the bridges. On a clear evening it’s genuinely spectacular. The cocktail menu up there is taken seriously, and the champagne bar below has its own loyal following among Newcastle professionals.
Weddings: The Vermont is one of Newcastle’s premier wedding venues – the ballroom holds several hundred guests and the team here have been running large-scale celebrations for decades. It books out well in advance, especially for summer Saturdays.
Location: Castle Garth, right next to the Keep and Black Gate. A five-minute walk downhill to the Quayside, ten minutes to Grey Street.
